Enjoying my NPC enrollment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I’m enrolled at NPC ad getting my Bachelors next year. I stumbled on this site when doing internet search about the school and cant believe some of the things people are saying here.

NPC has been amazing in over 2 years. The financial aid checks take a while but thats all in the award letter I don’t see why someone is surprised by it unless they just never read their award letter. Most teachers are amazing Not all but most. Howard, Steven and Dede and a few others are some of the best teachers I’ve ever had, their energy is contagious.

Ive had a couple of grades I thought were unfair but if you ask they’ll explain why. I even got a grade changed once when I convinced them I was right. The mentors are there to help and give so much assistance and support especially at the beginning when your new and need all the help you can get.

The ladies in FA and admissions are easy to reach and do everything to help. Overall NPC is one of the best schools I’ve ever been to.

I think the issue (and I am a current student) is that the school refuses to update and offer more convenient disbursements. I have been to other colleges and they both posted funds within 3 DAYS whereas National Paralegal you are lucky to get a check in 3 weeks.

Not acceptable with today's technology. I have also had to deal with several rude ppl just when asking simple questions, and if you post anything other than a compliment on the message board its removed and blocked. I would never send anyone to this school and can't wait to be done.

I am also having a hard time finding a job as the training I received is not relevant to paralegal positions. BTW, I have no problem proving my validity.

Thank you for the kind words regarding your NPC experience.

We, too, are surprised by some of the comments here. Unfortunately, it is in the nature of an anonymous forum with no moderation or quality control for some people who get upset about one thing or another to simply say whatever vitriolic thing they like without regard for its validity or accuracy.

NPC is proud of its record of superior customer service as reflected in part on our testimonials page (http://nationalparalegal.edu/Testimonials.aspx).

We are also proud to work with every student individually to do everything we can to assist all students achieve their academic and career objectives. This is also reflected in our graduate satisfaction rates which are consistently above 95% (and are, in fact, at 100% in 2016, year-to-date).

While we make every effort to help students, we are punctilious and careful in adminsitering federal financial aid funds and we will not change an academic grade merely because a student demands it (though we do give every grade challenge all due considertation). This does tend to cause some dissatisfaction in people who need or want more financial aid money then they’re eligible for or who want it at times that they are not elgible. Enforcing our academic policies also sometimes causes resentment (although, again, we always try to be as flexible as possible with students who have emergencies).

But these are two areas in which we cannot compromise our standards, even if it means enduring a little slander on unmoderated anonymous websites.

We also understand that there’s a lot of information out there and it’s hard to believe just what to trust. That’s why we encourage all prospective students to take advantage of our no-obligation completely free trial enrollment. See the school from the inside.

Speak to current students by private message, etc. We are confident that this will show that the real NPC is like.

Well, When I first started this school I was not happy with the financial aid and how it is handled. This has not changed.

I would warn anyone that is dependent on student loans and aids NOT to go to this school!! You will wait months for a check and 3-5 month gaps between checks. Choosing this school has cost me my credit and constant stress. Errors like not checking their emails for corrections or responses needed will cost you added months of wait.

Ive been there for a year now and nothing is better. Oh, and don't question a grade or ask any questions; you will get rude and hateful responses and even insults-I asked once why I had been counted off for something not listed in the assignment, and was told I was the only one that didn't figure it out, and that every other student did. Thanks. I also once asked if they would be open during a jewish holiday and the response from the head admin was nasty and rude-no I was not rude about it either, as I am Jewish and it was a high holy week, so I just wanted to know if they would be open (when you wait a month for your check after they get your funds and already waited 2 months to get that, trust me you want to know if any other delays will occur.)

Overall?

I am sitting on ruined credit and loans that I can't rely on thanks to this place, and horribly rude people that have no desire to teach; only make you feel like an ***.

I have basically had to go to outside sources to learn the material and I will be done by Oct with the associates and I cannot wait-I will be applying to Penn State online for the BA and only hope that they will take this Associates; which I doubt they will. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!

The financial aid process is all broken down and explained to new students before signing the promissory note and u should have gotten a lot of information from the seminar about financial aid before you started. The staff answers all questions very quickly and if u were unsure of something or how the process works you should have asked them.

Not trying be rude or imply your complaint isn't valid, but the staff can provide you the information but they cannot understand it for you it's the students responsibility to understand exactly what's expected of them. The waiting on the money to come in can be frustrating I know but financial aid process is about the same for any school. The school has to wait for the funds to be distributed before they can pay ur classes or send u a check for the overage. The staff has never been the least bit rude or unprofessional towards me and I think the financial aid staff deserves more praise than they get on the simple fact that they deal with so many students and every students funds are dispersed at different times.Again I'm not trying be rude in anyway just trying help u understand their side of the issue.

This school has been nothing but supportive to me and nobody has ever been rude or made me feel ignorant. The school offers a lot of extra study resources and the teachers are just an email away. Student mentors are phenomenal. I've had nothing but support from day 1.

The school is nationally credited and licensed with the BBB and has an A+ rating. It is not mandatory to be accredited by the BBB so NPC went beyond what they had to in order to obtain that achievement. I understand you can't please everybody and certain issues arise that can be irritating but this is a wonderful school and assuming that a different school will not accept your degree from NPC is very offensive to the staff who run the school. They do their best to help their students succeed as failing students would be a reflection on them.

The courses offer surveys at the end I hope you filled them out to inform the school where u feel they could improve. Stephen Hass is a wonderful dean and truly takes a personal interest in helping students anyway he can. Maybe you were not aware of how everything would operate when signing up everything is mentioned in the student handbook and tutorials.

I hope you do not take this the wrong way or as disrespectful it was never my intention to be that way. I wish you the best of luck in finishing your degree and in the future in obtaining your Bachelors at Penn State.

This is a pathetic response. This school is A TOTAL SCAM.

The way everything about this school is set up, is to MAXIMIZE PROFITS, not to mention take advantage of the federal government via FAFSA. The way classes are organized one at a time, and overlapping- ridiculous. I'm sure its something to do with trapping students receiving aid, and the students not being able to withdraw from the school without NPC having taken the "aid disbursement'' There are no books for the first few classes? As so 'not burden new students with that extra headache while getting acclimated at NPC' I was told.

I am sorry but you need books. Its so frustrating. Anyone who's attended college at any other institution in this country will be familiar with how financial aid is payed out to students. Around the same time every semester, tuition reimbursement checks are issued to students, in one lump sum- to provide for whatever the student has decided it necessary.

At NPC, it is a literal nightmare of an experience in the way they have their FA system set up. They will say that it is due to Dept. of Edu. requirements, or how our system is set up- and a lot more.

Its really just a lot of BS and teetering on the line of fraud, deception and theft. F this school F every member of the staff Not a single person working there is out for the students best interest.

They are for profit, please keep that in mind. Please I beg of you, do not make my mistake and not do thorough research on this place.

Rude Staff Making False Promises

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Mar 08, 2016

School again tries to defend itself again after receiving similar complaints from other students.

Original review Mar 01, 2016
I was looking to attend graduate school and that's where I discovered National Paralegal University. After providing my credentials and proving how I wanted to go graduate school, a representative gave me the go to enroll as a special admitted student. I applied, got admitted, and was excited to start. Here were it all goes down. Everyone I spoke to on the phone from admissions, associates, to the whole staff seemed like they were uneducated and slow. OMG! I was so surprised and frustrated. It almost sounded like I was talking to a high school blonde. She claims she has a master's? Again, don't know where she got her degree from, but I am sure it's a joke, LIKE this school. Screw what their websites say's about any of them having a degree here, this or that. On the phone, it doesn't take a genius to realize that you don't care about the students.

After getting admitting and submitting ALL of my documents, I finally get a call saying I don't qualify. What!? Why did the other person said I qualify? Why didn't the staff check on this before asking for all my documents? They shunned me after receiving my financial aid information. Who know's what they are planning. All I know was all hard work applying, submitting my personal information, and to find out I can't start school? Something is up. The admission person who were mostly women says you can apply again in a couple of months. I smirked on the phone and said, Sure! We will see! After that I never looked back. Never thought about reapplying. I took a risk & now I had to pay the price. Luckily I they didn't take my money or more time what would have completely sucked! I can imagine them pulling something similar to someone finishing the program and figuring out they won't give your degree!!!

They lost a potential student. I knew this college was shady, but took a risk thinking everyone has different experiences. Well, they were right! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this college. They are only after your financial aid. Once they get that information, they will leave to hang you dry!!! You have been WARNED!!! It would save the heartache and trouble.

Same thing happened to me. After submitting all relevant documents and being accepted to the school, they inform me I was not accepted. Nobody communicates with each other Unacceptable.

Why would you think you could enroll fully in the graduate program without an undergraduate degree first ? Obviously the policy is put in place for a reason.

It is unreasonable to think you could enroll without the correct credentials. That is like enrolling in the associates program without graduating high school in some form, it isn't possible.....

Necia Fcm

This applicant was accepted to an NPC Master’s program based on his assertion, both by phone and on his application, that he had secured an undergraduate degree. An undergraduate degree is a requirement for admission to any NPC Master’s Degree program, as is clearly laid out in our school catalog and on our website in many places.

When the applicant was told that he “qualifies,” it was based on his assertion that he had already earned an undergraduate degree. After multiple requests for his transcript, the applicant eventually told us that he had not yet graduated from his undergraduate school.

As such, we simply told him that, per our policy, he would need to wait until he earned his undergraduate degree to start an NPC Master’s Degree program. That he chose to take offense is unfortunate, but cannot be helped.

The applicant’s blatantly misogynistic slurs on our highly trained and qualified admissions officers are beneath comment.

As I read the complaint, I figured there was a another side to this story...because what school would turn away a qualified student?!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1121704

That is exactly my point! I WAS a qualified student according to the Dean.

Yet here I am mind boggled by the rejection I get after being encouraged to applying. Why did they have to wait until AFTER they received my financial aid before telling me I wasn't qualified. Better yet, Why didn't the Dean just couldn't tell me himself that I wasn't qualified. Again, here I am questioning the way how the faculty communicated through the phone.

It was neither professional nor helpful in anyway. I have spoken to much better staff in a high school that were much more professional than here.

Instead of fixing their problems, here's one staff trying to defend it by making false remarks toward a potential student. Evidence 1 - Just read above!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Necia Fcm

The funny thing is this school has been trying to defend similar complaints from other students in the past. Anyone who read this may do a simple Google search on this school.

Furthermore, after sending my credentials to applying, I was responded with the following:

"I believe that, based on the diversity and breadth of your education and experience, we will be able to accept you into one of the Master's Degree programs.

Please feel free to apply. If the admissions office mentioned the GPA issue, please refer them to me."

Thank you and best wishes and we look forward to working with you.

As you can see, this was clear indication to encourage me applying, which I did! Then after going through the extensive process and heartache, I was finally admitted. Then right after they received my financial aid information, I get a call saying was wasn't qualified...???

The school needs stop trying to defend itself and fix their problems. That email I received has higher position than the person who responded to my complaint! Therefore, I think they shouldn't have the audacity to speak without even figuring out who responded to my request in the first place.

Also the school should have evaluated my admission carefully before making such false promises. Again, I can keep going on, but I am not going to sit here and watch this school do the same thing to other potential students.

Necia Fcm

You were provisionally accepted pending verification of information you provided on your college application. First, your GPA didn't check out when we saw your transcripts.

We said that we'll give you some leeway on account of your work experience. Subsequently, it came to light that you had not yet received your bachelor's degree. Unfortunately, the requirement of having a bachelor's degree cannot be compensated for by work experience.

We informed you that you'd be able to begin our master's program as soon as you have completed your bachelor's degree requirements. I'm sorry if this was not communicated to you satisfactorily.

I mentioned that I didn't have a bachelor's degree prior to receiving that email above.

Current NPC Student - So far, so good.

I sometimes wonder while reading reviews if any are genuine, both the good and the bad. For what it's worth, I'm not an employee or a paid mule, so I'm being completely honest. I've also been frustrated with this institution. I have been a student at NPC since September 2013. I am working on a BS in Legal Studies. No, it's not regionally accredited, but it is nationally. The Board of Education recognizes it as a legitimate school. Yes, sometimes the staff can be abrupt, but point me to any college/university with an entire staff of bubbly and friendly employees and I'll wait for you to stop tripping on shrooms. As far as disbursements of aid, they follow the schedule the government decides to set. Additionally, they are legally allowed to hold your surplus for 14 days once they receive it. Most folks will tell you it's simply to collect the return interest for that money in whatever magical account they have, but it's also to ensure you are complying with the 'attendance' requirements set forth by government. Since it's online, they have to wait for you to complete a required task - which they spell out very clearly. I will graduate in September of this year, and have had some rough patches to work through -- full time job, full time mom, full time school -- and the level of compassion and understanding I have been shown to ensure I complete my education is astounding. Yes, the school is expensive. It's a for-profit school and most folks are paying out of state tuition fees. They have, however, had students get into ABA Accredited Law Schools with degrees from their institution. I know this is quite lengthy and if you've taken the time to read this far, I thank you. If you're interested in NPC, I suggest you look further into the school than just on this site.

If You Want to Be a Paralegal

If you want to be a paralegal or legal assistant don't go to this school. This school's assignments will not prepare you for what will be expected of you in real legal position. The professors are great but the assignments do not teach the rigorous writing skills one needs, which must be in accordance with procedural rules and pursuant to substantive law. This school also has a grading rubric for assignments which it does not follow. If you appeal a grade, the appeal isn't based on the given rubric but the reviewer's "discretion", as interpreted by the particular reviewer. The staff is also very unprofessional and petty. No one should attend a paralegal school wherein he or she will be penalized for judging whether or not a case has merit, in what jurisdiction a case should be filed, what substantive law should be cited or what the particular format a pleading calls for. These are the precisely the things that attorneys are expecting paralegals to perform. In other words, if you want to learn how to write essays, go here. If you want to learn how to assist an attorney, don't.

Extremely unprofessional financial aid department. Very careless and inconsiderate of the students.

This school is great other than its financial aid department. The financial aid department is unorganized, unprofessional and not friendly or courteous at all. They will make you feel like you are bothering them when trying to ask a question and if you are trying to track the status of your financial aid they will tell you something different every time you call so they can buy time and drag the process out as long as possible. They will drag it out for 3 months telling you something new each time. The people working in the financial aid department have absolutely no customer service skills and are very inconsiderate and lack compassion and friendliness.

I don't understand the bashing of the financial aid staff...

I'm currently doing my paperwork for financial aid stuff and have had a few complicated questions and they've been very patient and kind to me and helped me understand what I didn't.

As for the hurdles of getting financial aid, that's all normal no matter what school you go to.

The government is slow. Darn IRS website wouldn't even work for me.

That's definitely delaying my financial aid progress. So far, though, NPC has been great and I think I'll like it even more in the future.

I am a student at National Paralegal College and I could not be happier or feel better about any other choice. They have excellent professors and the course material is laid out in an easy to follow method. Also they offer great student support and the web site is easy to get around on. They also provide a membership to lexis nexis legal site which is great. They answer any questions, offer student mentors and have all the contacts you could need. They also have it set up so that the professor teaching the class does not grade your work or exams.

I am currently a student in NPC and they have been very supportive and quick to respond to any issues. However, I do have a problem with the fact it takes more than 30 days after starting class to even see loans and disbursements, which I haven't gotten yet and it's been 28 days for me, and you won't see money for almost 2 months, which is not the norm for other schools. Most post in a week after starting classes so I am questioning my choice joining this school.

If this program is not ABA approved, (and I don't see mention of it on their website) you are wasting your time and money! I paid 25k to go to a paralegal school for 18 months (not this one) and no law firm will consider me because it was not an ABA-approved school.

A friend earned her two-year Paralegal degree at local community college and she has encountered the same thing.

Attorneys want ABA certified Paralegals only. The bigger law firms will not waive that qualification and the smaller ones may on occasion if you have a ton of work experience already.

Not regionally accredited

This school is overpriced and is not regionally accredited. Most schools will not take any credits that you have earned. Please check to be sure before you start this school. They will not tell you. They are quick to take your money, but will not do anything else that will benefit you. I withdrew almost two months ago. I have a credit on my ledger, however, I have yet to receive any money back. They told me it takes 45 days to reconcile the ledger. We are going on almost two months now. This is ridiculous. I am going further with my complaint.

They are Nationally Accredited. There are a plethora of well known colleges and universities that accept credits from nationally accredited schools. You can find this information online.

Not accredited and they don't tell you

I withdrew almost three months ago and had a credit on my account. I called and was told that it takes 45 days to reconcile the ledger. I have yet to receive anything from them at all. Then they give me a call and tell me to call them today regarding a balance on my account. They will not receive a penny from me. I will not give them a call back, instead I am looking to file with someone about the way they trick their students to sign up and then they take the money and have excuses with giving it back

NPC is great school!!!

I have been attending NPC for over a year now and have learned so much in that time period. The professors are all wondeful teachers and are willing to go the extra mile to help you. They offer to stay after class for anyone with questions, are very easily accessible and they provide you with study halls for students having trouble. They also assign you a mentor who is always willing to help you out. Their financial dept is very efficient and their always helpful when you call with any questions. I would recoomend this school to anyone interested in paralegal studies. Thumbs up for NPC

After sending my papers by email and applying on their website, they never got back to me, they never informed why I was not accepted in their school. The Admission lady wrote me an email once just to tell me she had received my paperwork and she would allow me to start the program, however that was it, after I emailed her back I got no response. They need to hire more professional people in Admissions, this lady's name is Danielle. I even talked to her on their chat live but she completely ignored me. Why do you hire people with no interest in their job! I totally lost my time

National Paralegal College not a scam

I have read these complaints against National Paralegal College and honestly can not believe it.----The financial dept at NPC is wonderful. They do send out award letters and do respond to their students requests and are always willing to explain things to you . They are very helpful and are always there for you. The professors and mentors at this facility are absolutely out of this world. They are there to help you and are genuinely concerned about each of their students. Every student is assigned their own mentor who is available to help you with anything you need help with. I've learned so much by attending NPC and have had nothing but a good experience by attending NPC. I would highly recommend this school to anyone interested in paralegal studies.
